POSITION OVERVIEW
Position Title: Early Childhood Education: Part-Time UNEX Instructor

Anticipated Start: Spring 2025
Location:Online, hybrid, and in-person in the following locations: Riverside, east Riverside County (Coachella Valley and Mecca), Imperial County (El Centro), and San Luis Obispo County.

POSITION DESCRIPTION
University Extension is seeking experienced professionals to join our instructional team as part-time instructors for adult learners. Successful candidates of this continuous recruitment will be eligible to teach courses as they are scheduled during the year for our Advanced Teaching and Administration in Early Childcare Settings, Teaching in Early Child Care Settings, and Teaching Transitional Kindergarten. This program teaches students how to supervise, mentor and assess staff, and communicate effectively with parents.
Courses are 8-10 weeks in length, averaging 7 teaching hours per week, and are offered online (synchronous on Saturday and/or Sunday) and in-person. Courses delivered in-person and online are typically scheduled on Saturdays and Sundays.

We are currently looking for:

  1. ECE Spanish Bilingual/Biliterate instructors located in east Riverside County, Imperial County and San Luis Obispo County that can teach in-person.
  2. ECE Spanish Bilingual/Biliterate instructors and English instructors that can deliver online, synchronous courses.
  3. TK instructors that can deliver online, synchronous courses.

• Principles and Practices of Teaching Young Children
• Teaching in a Diverse Society
• Education and Care of Infants and Toddlers
• Parent (Family) Involvement in Early Childhood Education
• Transitional Kindergarten: Child Growth and Development
• Diversity and Responsive Teaching in a Transactional Kindergarten Classroom
• Home, School, and Community Collaboration for Transitional Kindergarten Teachers
• Language, Literacy, and Support for Preschool English Learners
• The Transitional Kindergarten Curriculum
• Intentional Teacher Engagement in a Transitional Kindergarten Classroom
• Observation and Assessment in Transitional Kindergarten Classroom
• Practicum and Coaching for Transitional Kindergarten Teachers

RESPONSIBILITIES
• Provide instruction in accordance with the established instructional agreement, curriculum outlines, and class schedule provided by University Extension.
• Communicate teaching objectives and specific learning outcomes to students, and clearly outline the grading policies of the course.
• Work in conjunction with collaborative partners and subject matter experts to ensure that course information is current.
• Participate in scheduled orientations, meetings, and mandatory training programs by UCR’s established deadlines.
• Create course shell, maintain timely and accurate academic records within the learning management system, and submit timely and accurate documentation as well as student grades as outlined in the instructional agreement.
• Maintain appropriate standards of professional conduct.

REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Requirements
• Advanced degree in Education or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Five years of related work experience.
• Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
• Must have access to the internet, a personal computer/laptop, and ability to teach online.
• Ability to provide instruction online, hybrid and in-person.
• Commitment to diversity and the University’s mission.
• Ability to successfully complete a LiveScan (fingerprint) background check prior to start date.
• Authorization to work in the United States.

Preferred Qualifications
• Experience teaching adult learners. 
• Experience with curriculum development and course design.
• Experience teaching online courses using Canvas.
• Bilingual/Biliterate English/Spanish.
• Located in Coachella Valley, Mecca, El Centro, and San Luis Obispo.
• Ability to teach a wide range of courses in the field of expertise.
