Position Overview
Reporting to the Library’s Director of Teaching and Learning, the Educational Technologist Librarian will lead the library in the use of technology and tools for excellence in teaching, learning, and assessment of library skills and the development of student information, digital, visual, and data literacy. Centered around “information creation as process,” this position will be responsible for developing services and resources that contribute to enhanced and experiential learning, including teaching students, instructors, and librarians key tools and pedagogical approaches in educational technology use. The Educational Technologist will lead librarians and library staff in using technology for learning by assessing and implementing the use of hardware, software, and digital tools into teaching work; provide consultation and expertise to faculty and instructors, across campus interested in the integration of student use of creative technology into classroom learning; and guiding students who are applying technology for their academic, professional, and personal success. This position will also serve as a liaison to other units in the library and on campus with an educational technology mission, including the UCR Library Creat’R Lab, Library Cyberinfrastructure, XCITE Center for Teaching and Learning, and campus Information Technology Services.

The UCR Library is comprised of two facilities housing more than 4,900,000 volumes, 1,740,000 electronic books, 120,000 print and electronic journals, and 2,300,000 microforms. The Library provides services to more than 27,000 students and nearly 2,000 faculty and other academics in an institutional environment planning for and experiencing extensive growth. The successful candidate will join an enthusiastic staff of 100, including 36 FTE librarians and 65 FTE staff personnel as well as students, in building a research library of excellence within a dynamic and diverse university ranked among the top 50 in the nation. The UCR Library is a member of the Association of Research Libraries (ARL). Among the unique collections of the UCR Library is the Eaton Collection of Science Fiction and Fantasy, the Water Resources Collections & Archives, the Rupert Costo Library of the American Indian, the Paul Chou Collection of Chinese history and culture, the George Brown Papers, the Tomás Rivera Papers, and the Inland Empire Memories Initiative. The UCR Library is an integral part of the University of California library system. With collections totaling 40.8 million volumes, including 4.3 million digitized contents contributed to HathiTrust, UC’s more than 100 libraries are surpassed in size on the American continent only by the Library of Congress collection. In addition, UC’s California Digital Library (CDL) provides the core of the University's digital collections. CDL also assists UC to share resources and holdings more effectively, and provides leadership in applying technology to the development of library collections and services. Organizationally situated within the UC Office of the President, the CDL operates in close collaboration with all UC campuses and their libraries.
Key Responsibilities
• Consulting with librarians to identify and implement technology for teaching, learning, and assessment,
• Consulting with faculty, instructors, and teaching assistants to assess and implement technology for experiential and enhanced learning,
• Consulting with students in their use of technology for academic and professional needs, including audio/visual media production, design and visualization, and information dissemination and sharing,
• Develop services and resources for supporting the effective use of technology in teaching and learning, including lesson plans, teaching tools, and asynchronous learning objects, focused on library and information literacies,
• Establish and provide programming, including course-related instruction and workshops, related to the above areas to be offered in library spaces to utilize and promote library technology for teaching and learning,
• Provide guidance and resources for intellectual property, copyright, and Fair Use as it pertains to instruction content development and use,
• Provide guidance and resources for ethical and appropriate use of generative AI as it pertains to teaching, learning, assessment, and academic integrity,
• Research and make recommendations regarding the use of technology in library teaching and learning spaces, including classrooms, enhanced learning spaces, and service points,
• Provide general reference service support for students working on the information desk both virtually and in-person,
• Contribute to DigiRef, the UC-wide consortium virtual reference service,
• Participate in departmental instructional rotations, reference support, projects, and service development,
• Participate in assessment and other quality improvement activities,
• Participate in effective communications and engagement with appropriate stakeholders to maintain knowledge contribution to library collections and resources development,
• Collaborate with colleagues across the library and the campus on student engagement activities,
• Independently and collaboratively participate in ongoing professional development.
UC professional librarians are academic appointees and are represented by an exclusive bargaining unit; The University Council-American Federation of Teachers (UC-AFT). This position is in the bargaining unit.
Appointment at rank of Assistant Librarian to Librarian - Potential Career depending upon qualifications and experience. Advancement through the librarian ranks at the University of California is through a series of structured, merit-based evaluations, occurring every two to three years, each of which includes substantial peer review.

Qualifications
• ALA-accredited (MLIS, MLS etc.) degree, MAEd degree, or related field.
• One year experience providing learning/teaching technology services in an educational setting (K-12, higher education).
• Knowledge of or experience with standards related to information literacy, digital literacy, data literacy, visual literacy, and/or similar areas.
• Familiarity with computational tools and technology for information collection, analysis, and visualization related to teaching, learning, and assessment.
• Experience with implementation of Universal Design for Learning principles and awareness of accessibility requirements and best practices related to learning.
• Ability to present information effectively in a variety of settings and modalities.
• Ability to provide excellent reference and instruction services in all formats for students and faculty in an academic library.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to work creatively and effectively while promoting teamwork, diversity, equity, and inclusivity.
• Commitment to pedagogical professional development.
• Two years or more experience providing educational technology support and services in an educational setting.
• Experience providing instruction and/or reference support in an educational setting.
• Experience implementing information, digital, or visual literacy development initiatives, projects, or programs.
• Experience applying educational technology for information collection, analysis, and visualization.
• Experience with initiatives related to Digital Humanities, data dashboards, or other information visualization and engagement methods.
• Knowledge of the application of augmented and/or virtual reality for instruction purposes.
• Familiarity with programming language(s).
