Position description
The Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of California, Riverside (https://www.physics.ucr.edu/) invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Experimental Atomic, Molecular, and Optical Physics/Quantum Information Science with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2025. The final candidate will be expected to establish an outstanding and well-funded research program involving graduate and undergraduate students and postdoctoral scientists, to contribute to teaching at all levels including a nascent Quantum Information Sciences M.Sc. program. The successful candidate will be encouraged to participate and lead multi-investigator research efforts that leverage advanced AMO skills with collaborators in our existing faculty clusters in precision AMO, experimental cosmology, quantum materials and devices, and quantum information theory and multi-disciplinary research efforts across the campus particularly in UCR’s College of Natural and Agricultural Science, School of Medicine, and Bourn’s College of Engineering.
The UC salary consists of a base pay of $78,200- $101,400 for Assistant Professors and additional off-scale to be commensurate with market value, qualifications and experiences. The off-scale portion of the salary will be maintained as long as satisfactory academic progress is made. Additionally, the off-scale will be maintained subject to market adjustments to the UC salary scale.
Basic qualifications for this position that must be met by the date of application include a PhD in Physics and a demonstrated record of outstanding research in Experimental Atomic, Molecular, and Optical Physics and/or related Quantum Information Science.
A preferred qualification is a postdoctoral research experience with specialization in Experimental AMO Physics and/or related Quantum Information Science. Experimental research experience could be in areas as diverse as, but not limited to, precision measurement to test fundamental physics, control of electronic and molecular processes, or quantum information technology in the exploration of grand challenges in physics and astronomy, chemistry, material science, electrical engineering or computer science.
Advancement through the Professor ranks at the University of California is through a series of structured, merit-based evaluations, occurring every 2-3 years, each of which includes substantial peer input.
