Position description
The Department of Chemical and Environmental Engineering at the University of California, Riverside invites applications for an open-rank tenured or tenure-track faculty position in Chemical Engineering.
The Department of Chemical and Environmental Engineering is home to approximately 500 undergraduates, 100 graduate students, and 20 faculty members. Interdisciplinary collaborations are fostered by college-level and campus-wide initiatives and include plant science and agriculture (Center for Agriculture and Food Enterprise), the Center for Industrial Biotechnology, the Water Resource Center, the Winston Chung Global Energy Center, the Center of Innovative Materials for Energy and Environment, and the Center for Environmental Research and Technology.
The University of California, Riverside's (UCR) Marlan and Rosemary Bourns College of Engineering (BCOE) currently has 150 faculty members, more than 3,700 undergraduates, 1000 graduate students, more than $34 million in annual research expenditures, and is home to five departments, 11 undergraduate degree programs, 10 graduate degree programs, and 11 research centers.
Successful candidates will have a proven record of, or exceptional promise for, developing a vibrant externally-funded research program and developing a portfolio of high-quality teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels. UC faculty will be expected to maintain an active research agenda and record of publications, teach a regular course load at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, and participate in service activities at the department, college campus, and professional levels. They should also demonstrate clear potential for complementing and/or synergistically leveraging existing research activities within the department, college, and campus.
Applicants should have met the requirements for a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering or a related field, by the time of appointment. Although all areas of research will be considered, we are particularly interested in applicants with research interests in Biotechnology and Biomolecular Engineering or Catalysis and Reaction Engineering. Candidates with research interests in the listed areas who seek to address current challenges in plant biotechnology and agriculture are encouraged to apply.
Appointments are expected to begin July 1, 2025. Salary will be commensurate with education and experience. Advancement through the faculty ranks at the University of California is through a series of structured, merit-based evaluations, occurring every 2-3 years, each of which includes substantial peer input.
To apply: Interested individuals are required to submit a cover letter, most recently updated curriculum vitae, three reference letters or their contact information, a Statement of Teaching, a Statement of Research, and a Contribution to Diversity Statement to the AP Recruit website at https://aprecruit.ucr.edu/JPF02025.
Review of applications will begin December 20, 2024, and will continue until the position(s) are filled. For more information regarding the specific areas of interest and application procedures, please visit https://www.engr.ucr.edu/ Inquiries should be directed to Robert Jinkerson (robert.jinkerson@ucr.edu).
The posted UC salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and/or step at appointment. See Table(s) 3. The salary range for this position is $103,700 – $224,900. “Off-scale salaries” and other components of pay, i.e., a salary that is higher than the published system-wide salary at the designated rank and step, are offered when necessary to meet competitive conditions.
