Position description
The Department of Bioengineering (BIEN) at the University of California, Riverside invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Teaching, beginning the 2025/26 academic year. The appointment requires evidence of a long-standing record of exceptional undergraduate teaching, professional achievement, and service to the academic community. A Professor of Teaching is a member of the Academic Senate and will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses, as well as provide university and public services related to the undergraduate program including curriculum development, student advising, ABET accreditation, recruitment outreach, etc. Applications with strong experience teaching biomaterials, tissue engineering, and medical device design are encouraged to apply.
The search places strong emphasis on candidates who have a demonstrated commitment to promoting diversity and inclusiveness in teaching, research, and service, as well as a commitment to broadening participation for women and other underrepresented groups in Bioengineering.
Preferred qualifications include:
• A minimum of 3 years of experience as an undergraduate course instructor in an ABET-accredited Bioengineering or Biomedical Engineering program.
• A demonstrated record of high-quality and innovative teaching in a wide variety of undergraduate BIEN courses in at least two of the areas of: biomaterials, tissue engineering, and medical device design.
• A demonstrated record of teaching in capstone senior design courses, as well as successful engagement with sponsors to generate support for senior design projects.
• Experience in advising undergraduate students in course selection and career development is strongly preferred.
• At least 1.5 years of prior work experience in Bioengineering or Biomedical Engineering in an academic or industry setting.
A Ph.D. in Bioengineering, Biomedical Engineering, Biology, or a related field is required at the time of employment. Salary will be competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience. Full consideration will be given to applications received by December 20, 2024 Appointments are expected to begin July 1, 2025. The search will continue until the position is filled. Advancement through the faculty ranks is through a series of structured, merit-based evaluations, occurring every 2-3 years, each of which includes substantial peer input.

The posted UC salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and/or step at appointment. See Table(s) 3 [https://www.ucop.edu/academic-personnel-programs/_files/2024-25/oct-2024-scales/t3.pdf]. The salary range for this position is $103,700 – $129,600. “Off-scale salaries” and other components of pay, i.e., a salary that is higher than the published system-wide salary at the designated rank and step, are offered when necessary to meet competitive conditions.
