Position description

The University of California, Riverside (UCR) School of Medicine invites applications for an Associate Dean for Medical Education Quality and Compliance. Reporting to the Senior Associate Dean for Medical Education, this position directs the Office of Medical Education Quality and Compliance and is responsible for the continuous quality improvement process for the medical education program and for leading key aspects of Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) accreditation management. Essential functions include:

• Lead and chair the School of Medicine’s LCME CQI Leadership Team, in partnership with the Senior Associate Dean for Medical Education.
• Lead all administrative aspects of medical student education continuous quality improvement initiatives.
• Develop and maintain project management tools to track CQI activities and ensure follow-up of action items identified by CQI processes; communicating action items to curriculum governance committees to ensure appropriate implementation and monitoring.
• Direct communication processes related to CQI.
• Serve as an institutional lead to direct, and assist others in navigating, the complexity of Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) requirements.
• Serve in leadership roles as assigned during accreditation cycles. Manage logistics prior to and during LCME survey visits, including contributions to compiling, formatting, and submitting the survey package (e.g. self-study report and independent student analysis), manage the LCME-specified Data Collection Instrument (DCI) for the survey, and contribute to coordination of on-the-ground details for the survey site visit.
• Partner with the Senior Associate Dean for Medical Education, and other deans and directors as needed, to plan, forecast, and develop budgets for accreditation needs, including external consultant visits and LCME accreditation visits.
• Serve as an active member of the Accreditation Preparation & Quality Improvement (APQI) community of practice, the national group for accreditation professionals.
• Attend regional and national conferences related to Academic Medicine, Medical Education, and the Liaison Committee on Medical Education.
• Contribute to coordination of all LCME official correspondence, including site visits, responses to accreditation monitoring, and annual questionnaires.
• Maintain updated knowledge of all LCME standards and processes related to institutional compliance.

The successful applicant must qualify for an academic appointment as an Associate Professor or Professor (Ladder Rank), Associate Professor or Professor of Clinical X, or Health Sciences Clinical series at the associate or full professor rank. The successful candidate must possess an M.D. or D.O. degree, or an Ed.D., or Ph.D. from an accredited institution in areas such as the health professions, education, or a related field. M.D. or D.O. applicants must be board certified in an ABMS specialty and eligible for licensure or licensed to practice in the State of California in a clinical specialty aligned with the UCR SOM clinical enterprise UCR Health. The incumbent will have a concurrent academic appointment in an appropriate academic/clinical department and is expected to participate in clinical service (for M.D./D.O. candidates), in addition to research, or scholarly activities.

The successful candidate will be expected to have at least 5 years of experience in medical education, health professions education, or higher education, with a sound understanding of undergraduate medical education, quality improvement initiatives, and program evaluation, and at least 3 years of project management and supervisory experience, as well as familiarity with LCME accreditation. Additional qualifications include the demonstration of outstanding academic accomplishments and trajectory which may include innovative educational program development, excellence in teaching, clinical leadership, and research or scholarly work. Rank and series will be determined based on qualifications and experience.

Finally, the candidate must demonstrate appropriate administrative experience and a proven record of academic and administrative leadership qualities.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)
  • Must possess an M.D. or D.O. degree, or an Ed.D., or Ph.D. from an accredited institution in areas such as the health professions, education, or a related field.
