Position description

The Department of Theatre, Film & Digital Production of the University of California, Riverside invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Latinx/e Theatre Practice and Studies position.

The department seeks scholar-artist candidates with deep knowledge of Latinx/e theatre histories, theories, texts, makers, and communities across the Americas and experience with theatre practices such as dramaturgy, directing, playwriting, acting, designing, or producing.

Starting Date: July 1, 2024

Salary: Salary commensurate with education/experience.

Duties: Duties include developing a significant research profile, teaching four courses per year, mentoring students, and contributing to the service and shared governance of the Department of Theatre, Film & Digital Production and the university. Some examples of service might include serving on search committees for new hires and lecturers, advising the student Latinx Play Project, and facilitating evaluations for the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival. The candidate must be able to teach core classes including TFDP 021 Introduction to Latinx Cultural Production on Stage and Screen, TFDP 122 Theatre for Social Change, TFDP 120A Literature and History of the Theatre: The Classical Period Through the Italian Renaissance, and TFDP 120B Literature and History of the Theatre: The Elizabethan Period Through the Nineteenth-Century. The successful candidate is welcome to teach other courses in the department catalog and aid in the development of new courses.

Required Qualifications: PhD in Theatre and Performance or relevant field by the time of the appointment start date.

Preferred Qualifications: Demonstrate a record of Latinx/e theatre research, practice, and teaching experience at the university level.

Advancement through the faculty ranks at the University of California is through a series of structured, merit-based evaluations, occurring every 2-3 years, each of which includes substantial peer input.

The posted UC salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and/or step at appointment. The salary range for this position is $74,600 -$97,200. “Off-scale salaries” and other components of pay, i.e., a salary that is higher than the published system-wide salary at the designated rank and step, are offered when necessary to meet competitive condition.
