Position description
Position(s): Assistant Professor, Early Modern Chinese History
The Department of History at the University of California, Riverside invites applications for a full-time, tenure track position in the history of Early Modern China (Ming to Qing Dynasties).
Starting Date: July 1, 2024
Salary: Salary is commensurate with education and experience.
Qualifications: A PhD in History or a related discipline is required at the time of appointment. Bilingual (Chinese-English) expertise, a demonstrated record of excellence in research and teaching, and a strong commitment to research and publication in the field is also required. Extensive experience with Chinese archives is a preferred qualification.

Duties: The successful candidate will be expected to teach core courses in Chinese history, as well as courses in global/transnational history and thematic courses based on the candidate’s research profile. Strong commitments to the mentorship of undergraduate and graduate students and the advancement of Asian studies programs on campus are highly desirable.

The posted UC salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and/or step at appointment. The salary range for this position is $74,600 -$97,200. “Off-scale salaries” and other components of pay, i.e., a salary that is higher than the published system-wide salary at the designated rank and step, are offered when necessary to meet competitive condition.
