Position title: Assistant Professor of Teaching

Position description

The University of California, Riverside, Department of Psychology invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Teaching beginning July 1, 2023. This position is equivalent in level to other Assistant Professor positions, but with emphasis placed on excellence in teaching and teaching-related activities. The Assistant Professor of Teaching will also have leadership responsibility as a facilitator and initiator of instructional development, curriculum design, and new instructional technologies. Teaching Professors are expected to provide outstanding teaching, as well as to demonstrate a commitment to high quality professional activity (such as research on pedagogy and/or psychology) and service related to the pedagogical mission of the department and university.

Applicants from all fields of Psychology are encouraged to apply. Those with expertise in cutting-edge quantitative and/or qualitative methods who are interested in contributing to graduate training are strongly encouraged to apply. We are also interested in scholars with expertise in the learning sciences. Review of the applications will begin on January 2, 2023, and will continue until the position is filled. A Ph.D. in psychology or a related discipline is required at the time of appointment. Salary will be competitive and commensurate with education and experience. Assistant Professors of Teaching are appointed to a two-year term, will be reviewed biennially, and are required to undergo a mandatory 7th-year review for promotion to Associate Professor of Teaching. The review process focuses on teaching excellence, professional activity, and service.

An Assistant Professor of Teaching is a member of the academic senate and will be expected to teach six classes across three quarters per year and to be engaged in significant service and/or research (in pedagogy or psychology, though pedagogy is preferred).

Complete applications must include a cover letter, curriculum vitae, a teaching statement, evidence of teaching excellence (e.g., teaching evaluations, innovative instructional materials developed by the candidate), reprints of scholarly articles with a pedagogical focus, a statement of research goals and accomplishments, a statement of contributions to diversity, and three letters of reference (commenting on the applicant’s pedagogical skills, among other attributes).

Applicants who use Interfolio may utilize a feature provided by the Interfolio Service to allow Interfolio to upload their letters directly into AP Recruit.
