Assistant Professor of Cinematography & Technology
(Tenure track)

Position Description:
The Department of Theatre, Film & Digital Production of the University of California, Riverside, invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Cinematography & Technology.

We welcome strong candidates with recognized national or international reputations for an Assistant Professor position with a start date of July 1, 2022. Duties will include but are not limited to creating and teaching undergraduate courses, mentoring students and the supervision of production work and theses, with a dedication to professional service to the department of Theatre, Film and Digital Production and the university. Some examples of service might include serving on search committees for new hires and lecturers, supervising departmental projects such as our annual FilmWorks Film Festival and the Smartphone Film Festival comprised of original student work, mentoring students who are working on capstone projects, and other extracurricular activities.

The candidate must be able to create and teach core classes including a large-format Introduction to Cinematography course (at least 60 students) with an emphasis on practice-based, hands-on applications and smaller Advanced Cinematography workshop classes (15-20 students), as well as production classes in which we produce our annual department films or three-episode web series.

Qualifications:
Successful candidates will hold an MFA or PhD, or equivalent experience and at least five years of professional film industry work. Applicants must be able to demonstrate a history of teaching experience at the university level, including a range of classes in cinematography and filmmaking. Interest and experience in teaching any of the following is a plus: sound design/audio production, directing and editing. A strong commitment to department and university service is a key component of this position.

Salary will be commensurate with education and experience. The position will remain open until filled.

Faculty in the University of California are expected to engage in research or creative activity, teaching and service. Typical course load is currently four classes over the academic year.

Advancement through the faculty ranks at the University of California is through a series of structured, merit-based evaluations, occurring every 2-3 years, each of which includes substantial peer input.
