Position description

The Department of Physics & Astronomy at the University of California, Riverside (physics.ucr.edu) invites applications for two faculty positions: one tenure-track assistant professor and one tenured mid-level professor. The positions may be in any area of physics including, but not limited to, high-energy; nuclear; atomic, molecular, and optical; condensed matter; and biological physics. This search is part of the University of California Office of the President Advancing Faculty Diversity recruitment program.

The appointment at the assistant professor level will have an enrichment option to complete up to a year of postdoctoral training anywhere in the United States in 2020-2021. During the enrichment period, UCR will provide salary and benefits, support for professional travel, and funding for research expenses. The appointment to the rank of a tenure-track faculty member at UCR will begin no later than July 1, 2021. The successful candidate will have the option for mentoring from senior faculty and additional training toward the campus goal of inclusive excellence in research, teaching, and service to our community.
The appointment at the mid-level will be under the title of “Provost’s Professor for Advancing the Physical Sciences” and is expected to contribute to efforts to make a difference for women and other underrepresented groups in the Physical Sciences. The appointment has an anticipated start date of July 1, 2020.

Candidates for both positions are required to have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in physics, or a related field. We desire applicants who have identified strengths and experiences (calibrated to career stage) in the following areas:
• Excellence in research that complements or extends existing research strengths in the college and the potential to attract extramural funding.
• Evidence of or strong potential for commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion for underrepresented students and groups, and how those values integrate with teaching, research, and service.
• Commitment to excellence in teaching. Must demonstrate potential or evidence of ability to perform well at both graduate and undergraduate levels.
