Position description

The Department of English at the University of California, Riverside invites applications for a position in African American/Black Studies: at the level of Associate or Full Professor, beginning July 1, 2019.

We welcome applications from scholars engaged in any aspect of the full diversity of research subjects and approaches to African American and Black diasporic studies. Our department currently has research depth in black visual culture and rhetoric. We have a particular need for a scholar specializing in African American literature, and also recognize the potential for these hires to complement our department’s existing research strengths in a variety of fields, which include (but not limited to) critical theory, post-colonial studies, indigenous studies, queer studies, speculative fiction, and poetry. Comparative and interdisciplinary approaches are welcome. We seek scholars whose work will create the richest connections across the department and campus.

Applicants must demonstrate a strong record of publication and teaching excellence or exhibit the potential for research and teaching excellence. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in a related field and a record consistent with tenure at a research university. Salary will be commensurate with education and experience.

We encourage applicants to visit our departmental website for information about our undergraduate and graduate programs as well as our faculty: http://www.english.ucr.edu
