Description

The Department of Art at the University of California, Riverside, expects an opening for a temporary Visiting Assistant Professor (VAP) in Art Theory for the 2018-2019 academic year, pending final budgetary approval. The course load for this position would be two courses in Theory. This position has a salary of approximately $8,000 per course.

We are looking for a candidate with an ability to teach both undergraduate and graduate students in UCR’s diverse practice-based arts environment and welcome applicants with expertise in critical theory and a comprehensive engagement with contemporary art practices as evidenced by publications and teaching experience. Based on qualifications we may consider splitting the appointment between individuals. If also working as an artist, please send examples of your work. Applicants should be well grounded in art history as well. Teaching responsibilities will include two courses of undergraduate instruction (one lower- and one upper-division course), as well as undergraduate advising and graduate reviews. Additional duties include some departmental service as well as meetings with graduate students.

The courses listed may vary in number and quarter of offering. M.F.A. or equivalent degree, and one year of teaching experience or equivalent at the college or university level are required. Equivalent experience refers to teaching experience as a TA or career experience commensurate with the course.

Applications must include a cover letter of application, CV, one PDF of 10 images of applicant's work (if applicable/available), a second PDF of 10 images of student work, three names of references, recent samples of teaching evaluations, and a diversity statement, and should be submitted electronically. Electronic submission is strongly encouraged.

To ensure full consideration, applications and supporting material should be received by June 9, 2018.
