Position description

The University of California at Riverside (UCR) is implementing a major expansion of our faculty and investing in state-of-the-art research facilities to support their work. This expansion will build critical mass in 34 vital and emerging fields of scholarship, foster truly cross-disciplinary work, and further diversify the faculty at one of America’s most diverse research universities. We encourage applications from scholars committed to excellence and seeking to help define the research university for the next generation. Particular areas of interest include nanoscale and two-dimensional devices with engineered phonon, magnon and electronic properties; thermoelectric devices; spin waves and spintronic devices; advanced material synthesis and nanofabrication; phonon thermal transport in nanostructures and low-dimensional materials. The candidates are expected to collaborate with the research centers on campus focused on investigation of phonons and spins in nanoscale systems, and make use of nanofabrication cleanroom facilities.

A PhD in a relevant area at the time of appointment is a minimum requirement. Candidates must have published research of the highest quality and demonstrate exceptional promise for, or a proven record of, high quality research and teaching, securing external funding, collaborating across disciplines, and working successfully to benefit a diverse student body. Salary will commensurate with education and experience. The position will begin July 1, 2018.

Advancement through the faculty ranks at the University of California is through a series of structured, merit-based evaluations, occurring every 2-3 years, each of which includes substantial peer input.
