Position description

The Division of Biomedical Sciences within the School of Medicine at the University of California Riverside is seeking to hire up to three new faculty members at the rank of Assistant, Associate or Full Professor in tenure-track/tenured positions. For those requiring a clinical appointment, a joint appointment within the Division of Clinical Sciences School of Medicine is possible.

We are looking for accomplished research scientists in a number of specific areas to synergize with current Division, School and University strengths. Areas of research within the Division include cancer biology, gastro-intestinal biology, integrative immunology (vaccine development, neuro-immune, host- pathogen interactions), neurodevelopmental and neurodegenerative disorders. Particular strengths on the campus relevant to this search include genetics, genomics/bioinformatics, vector biology, bioengineering and nanotechnology, and synthetic and analytical chemistry.

Specifically, the Division of Biomedical Sciences is seeking applicants with biomedical research programs in:
• Cancer and Stem Cell biology
• Cardiovascular and metabolic disease
• Clinical genetics
• Medical microbiology
• Pulmonary or renal physiology

Preference will be given to those individuals examining molecular mechanisms of disease who are committed to a collaborative approach to research, and who are expert in their specific disease model. The Division of Biomedical Sciences sponsors an innovative Ph.D. program that integrates the core medical curriculum with biomedical graduate training and research. The successful candidate will be expected to teach in the medical curriculum and actively participate in the Biomedical Sciences Ph.D. program. As such, preference will be given to candidates who are capable of teaching pathology, infectious disease (microbiology/virology), physiology (cardiovascular, metabolic, renal or respiratory) or clinical genetics.

The University of California, Riverside is centrally located within the Southern California area and situated in an historic citrus growing area surrounded by mountain ranges. Riverside is an hour away from ski slopes, surfing, or hiking in mountain wilderness or desert environments, and housing in the area is very affordable. The campus is located in close proximity to a host of high profile universities, research institutes, and biotech industries in Southern California. Applicants must hold a Ph.D., M.D., Pharm D., or equivalent degree and qualify for a tenure track or tenured faculty appointment at the University of California.
