Position description

The Department of Physics and Astronomy at UC Riverside invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Teaching (LPSOE), Physics, beginning June 30th, 2016. Individuals occupying these positions are full-fledged members of the Academic Senate whose expertise and responsibilities center on undergraduate education and dedicated analysis and improvement of teaching. Their advancement parallels the tenure-track series, with the candidates being evaluated on their Teaching, Service and Professional Accomplishments. A Ph.D. in physics, astronomy or a related discipline and demonstrated excellence in teaching and teaching pedagogy is required. Experience with curriculum development, innovation in teaching, physics education research and educational grant writing is highly desirable.

The duties of an Assistant Professor of Teaching (LPSOE), Physics include classroom lecture instruction and oversight of the lower division undergraduate General Physics program for non-majors. Instruction of upper division courses in the candidate’s area of specialization is also possible. In addition, the successful candidate is expected to provide instructional pedagogy development and improvement, textbook evaluation and selection, TA training and oversight, development of student evaluation mechanisms, and design of teaching laboratory experiments. The candidate is expected to participate in education-related committees, conferences and workshops, student recruitment and outreach, and to prepare and submit extramural instructional and educational grant proposals. Publication of pedagogical innovation and/or assessment methods in high-quality peer-reviewed journals will be encouraged.
