Position description

University of California, Riverside

The UCR School of Public Policy invites applications for a tenure-track, open-rank appointment in poverty or inequality. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. We are looking for candidates with a strong research record, commensurate with rank, and policy relevance in areas of poverty and inequality, with respect to domestic and/or international contexts. For those doing international work, we are especially interested in those seeking to apply methods and lessons from around the world to poverty and inequality issues as they play out in inland Southern California.

Applicants should have an established record or promise of outstanding research accomplishment and teaching; they will be expected to teach and guide the research of master’s and doctoral students, to be committed to a cutting-edge research program that has direct implications for policy reform, and to further develop the new School of Public Policy (SPP). Relevant connections include other core areas of interest in the SPP, including environmental policy, other aspects of social policy (such as education, immigration, and governance), and interdisciplinary research centers in criminology, sustainable development, and healthy communities.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in public policy or a related discipline, such as demography, economics, geography, political science, or sociology, by the time of appointment. Salary will be competitive and commensurate with education and experience. The appointment will commence on July 1, 2015.

Applicants at the rank of Assistant Professor should submit a letter of interest that describes their research and training, curriculum vitae, writing samples, and 3 letters of recommendation; applicants at the rank of Associate Professor should include a letter of interest, a CV, names and contact information of 5 references, and a sample of research work.

All materials must be uploaded using UCR’s on-line application system located at https://recruit.ap.ucr.edu. Review of the applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled. To ensure full consideration, applications and supporting material should be received by December 12, 2014.

UCR has the most diverse student body of all UC campuses and is one of the few research universities in the country that also qualifies as a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI).
