RANK: Assistant Research Entomologist in mosquito bioinformatics and molecular biology

QUALIFICATIONS/
AREA(S) OF SPECIALIZATION:
Minimum Qualifications: Applicants must hold a M.S. in Bioinformatics or Computational Biology and a Ph.D. degree in Genetics and Bioinformatics.

Additional Qualifications: Three years of post-doctoral experience; thorough understanding of mosquito reproduction and biology; demonstrated knowledge of molecular genetics and genomics; proficiency with the UNIX environment; expert-level knowledge of at least one scripting language, e.g., Perl or Python; experience working with large-scale bioinformatics data sets and solid knowledge of bioinformatics analysis methods for microarray and RNA-seq data; knowledge of miRNA target prediction methods. Demonstrated experience in hands-on knowledge of qRT-PCR, in-vitro tissue culture and RNAi- silencing techniques.

Preferred Qualifications: Strong publication record, efficient communication skills (both oral and written); capacity to work with colleagues; ability to mentor graduate and undergraduate students.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Department of Entomology at UCR seek individuals interested in a career involving research to fill an Assistant Researcher position in the area of bioinformatics and molecular analyses of genes involved in mosquito reproduction.

A candidate must have graduate degrees in bioinformatics and genetics and experience working in these areas of mosquito molecular biology. Major responsibilities include working both independently and collaboratively with lab members to design and perform relevant computational and experimental analyses. Analyses of data generated from experiments and preparation manuscripts would be other obvious responsibilities. Analyzing large-scale bioinformatics data sets, e.g,. Microarray, RNA-Seq and ChIP-Seq and miRNA target prediction would be some of the other major responsibilities. Additional responsibilities will include assisting the PI in writing grants, mentoring students, sharing the responsibilities in maintaining laboratory order and insect rearing, and updating the lab website.
