Position description

The Department of Mechanical Engineering (ME), and the Materials Science and Engineering Program (MSE) at the University of California, Riverside invite applications for a faculty position (open rank) beginning the 2015/16 academic year. Exceptional candidates in all areas of mechanical and materials science and engineering will be considered, with preference given to those with interdisciplinary expertise in:

Materials characterization in the thermal and electrical domains, with emphasis on the development of advanced materials that address critical needs in healthcare and/or energy. Successful candidates at the junior level will be those who show clear promise for: a) developing strong independent research programs in their areas of expertise; b) complementing existing departmental strengths in energy processing, bio-applications, nano and microscale engineering, computation and design, materials properties and processing, multiphase flow and combustion, and/or air quality and fire engineering; and c) contributing to broader research efforts in healthcare and/or energy at the college and campus levels. A Ph.D. in any of the disciplines listed above (or a closely related field) is required at the time of employment and/or start of the service period. Successful candidates at the senior level should have a proven record of exceptional research, teaching and graduate student training. The incumbent will receive their primary faculty appointment within in ME; however, they will also maintain formal affiliation with the MSE Program, and teach courses in both ME and MSE. Salary will be competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience. Full consideration will be given to applications received by November 28, 2014.
