Position description

Assistant Specialist in Plant Genetics in Botany and Plant Sciences

The Department of Botany and Plant Sciences at the University of California invites applicants for a one full-time Assistant Specialist in Plant Genetics to conduct applied research for the Dr. Daniel Koenig’s Lab in Riverside, CA. This position will start on October 25, 2023. The purpose of this position is to is to link genomes to phenotypes in plants. The final candidate will conduct molecular biology analysis of plants, including application and development of wet lab techniques, plant care, and field work. The final candidate will also be expected to maintain organization and execution of large field and wet lab experiments, as well as manage the lab safety and ordering.

The current base pay range is $59,200 – $65,900.

Required qualifications for this position that must be met by the date of application include: Master Degree in Plant Biotechnology. Experience in molecular biology of plants including knowledge of the standard wet lab techniques, plant care, and field work with barley. Previous experience as a research assistant in the field. Extensive experience in developing and executing protocols in plant genomics including high throughput preparation of samples for Illumina and Pacific Biosciences sequencing.
