Position description

The School of Medicine at the University of California, Riverside is recruiting a faculty member for an academic appointment in the Division of Clinical Sciences. The successful applicant must qualify for an academic appointment in Professor of Clinical X or Health Sciences Clinical Professor series at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor rank. The finalist will have a concurrent academic appointment in an appropriate department in the School of Medicine. We seek an educator to participate in faculty development, with strong teaching experience and expertise in coaching teaching observation protocols and coaching faculty. Applicants with experience teaching in higher education, faculty development, and the scholarship of teaching and learning are encouraged to apply. Experience and interest in curricular development and assessment are preferred. The successful candidate will work in faculty development at the University of California, Riverside School of Medicine.

Working under the direction of the Director of the Office of Faculty Development (OFD), the Associate Director works to support the mission and values of the OFD and the UCR School of Medicine. The Associate Director will be responsible for supporting the professional growth and development of faculty members at the UCR School of Medicine. This will include observing teaching and providing individual coaching to diverse medical school faculty, designing and implementing faculty development programs, providing, evaluating the effectiveness of faculty development initiatives, and supporting continuous quality improvement and innovation. The Associate Director analyzes UCR School of Medicine needs to develop a specific programmatic response and serves as a subject matter expert in teaching and learning. The Associate Director, in collaboration with the Director and the OFD team, applies advanced professional training and development skills to resolve highly complex faculty development issues such as teaching excellence, student-centered teaching practices, evidence-based teaching methods, development and assessment of learning objectives, inclusive teaching practices, and advancing the knowledge and awareness of faculty development’s role in student success.

In addition, The Associate Director assumes direct responsibility for the OFD in the absence of the Director. the Associate Director will provide support to faculty to improve curriculum management including supporting faculty in writing measurable learning objectives, mapping objectives to the appropriate curricular elements, and assessing objectives completely and accurately. The Associate Director will remain up to date on best practices in faculty development and support innovative approaches to faculty development and teaching and maintain accurate records of faculty development programs and initiatives.

The successful candidate must possess an EdD or Ph.D or equivalent degree. Additional degrees related to education are desired (M.Ed., M.Med., etc.). The successful candidate will be expected to show a strong commitment to the education of medical students, residents, and fellows. The successful candidate will also be expected to participate in scholarly activities, University and public service appropriate for the academic appointments in Professor of Clinical X or Health Sciences Clinical series. Rank will be determined based on qualifications and experience. Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)
  • Possess an EdD or PhD or equivalent degree.
  • Experience teaching, expertise in teaching observation protocols, and expertise in evidence based methods of coaching faculty.
Preferred qualifications

Assistant Rank

  • Experience teaching medical students and residents.
  • Experience in scholarly activities, University and public service.

Assistant, Associate, or Full Rank
