Position description

The School of Medicine at the University of California, Riverside invites applications for the position of Executive Director of Clinical Skills Education and Innovation. The successful applicant will provide academic oversight for the Doctoring, Clinical Skills, Case-based Learning curricula, and the standardized patient program at UCR School of Medicine. This position offers excellent opportunities for teaching, scholarly activity and pursuing a career in academic medicine with time dedicated to curriculum development and innovation. The Executive Director will lead a team of directors to integrate these into one new cohesive, longitudinal Doctoring curriculum of the pre-clerkship Block Courses.

Applicants with five years professional experience as a practitioner in a clinical environment, with significant exposure to direct patient care (nursing, physician assistant, physical therapy, respiratory therapy, or other allied health professional) are strongly desired. Experience with technology systems, such as video capture software and learning management programs, is preferred.

The faculty member will also serve as the medical director of the Center for Simulated Patient Care (CSPC) and will also have oversight of the administrative and technical needs of the CSPC in close collaboration with the Standardized Patient Program Director of Operations and the Simulation Director of Operations at UCR School of Medicine.

The Director of CSPC collaborates with UCR SOM leadership, course directors, and clerkship directors to ensure integration of doctoring/clinical skills curriculum and will be responsible for building and fostering a positive, inclusive, academic, and innovative learning environment for all students. In addition, the director designs, manages, and evaluates their courses and the standardized patient program in keeping with the overall school learning objectives, directives of the Associate Dean for Clinical Medical Education (ADCME), the Senior Associate Dean for Medical Education (SADME), recommendations of the Medical Education Committee (MEC), Clinical Curriculum Subcommittee (CCS), or any MEC subcommittees, and relevant national society or accreditation recommendations. Use of measurable competency-based outcomes will drive curricular and programmatic decisions to enhance student performance.

The successful applicant must qualify for an academic appointment in Professor of Clinical X or Health Sciences Clinical series at the assistant, associate or full professor ranks. The placement of the successful candidate will be in the Division of Clinical Sciences, or Biomedical Sciences. The successful candidate must possess an M.D., Ph.D., or equivalent degree. Additional degrees related to education are desired (M.Ed., M.Med., etc.). The successful candidate will be expected to show a strong commitment to the education of medical students, residents, and fellows. The successful candidate will also be expected to participate in scholarly activities, University and public service appropriate for the academic appointments in the Division of Biomedical Sciences, or Clinical Sciences. Rank will be determined based on qualifications and experience.
