Position description
The Department of Environmental Sciences at the University of California, Riverside invites applicants for a full-time Assistant/Associate Professor of Environmental Health. Exceptional candidates in all areas of specialization in Environmental Health will be considered, with preferences given to candidates with expertise focused on linking environmental exposure to mechanisms leading to adverse outcomes relevant to human populations. The appointment will consist of a split 0.4 FTE I&R (Instruction and Research) and 0.6 FTE OR (Organized Research) appointment in the Agricultural Experiment Station (https://cnas.ucr.edu/resources/agricultural-experiment-station).
The successful candidate will support the Department’s excellence in environmental health sciences both at the undergraduate- and graduate-level. This hire will complement existing departmental and campus-wide faculty working on areas related to environmental health sciences, environmental toxicology, environmental chemistry, and exposure science. The successful candidate will have a strong track-record of peer-reviewed publications, proven record of, or exceptional promise for, developing a vibrant externally funded research program, and a portfolio of high-quality teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
The successful candidate will be expected to rely on 1) novel monitoring and analytical approaches to track human exposure to environmental contaminants within either existing or future cohorts at the local, national, or international-level and/or 2) cell-based (e.g., human cells or organoids) and/or non-mammalian model systems (e.g., invertebrate, fish, or amphibian models) to understand the potential toxicity of environmental contaminants within humans. Moreover, it is desirable that the candidate’s research will identify potential human health risks of contaminant exposure and, as a result, promote population-wide intervention and/or prevention strategies for mitigating human exposure to high-risk contaminants within California. In addition to developing a new advanced upper-division undergraduate or graduate-level course, at minimum the new faculty member would be expected to contribute to teaching core lower-division undergraduate courses focused on environmental sciences (ENSC 001, 002, and/or 003) and environmental health (ENSC 103), as well as core graduate-level courses within UCR’s interdepartmental Environmental Toxicology Graduate Program.
