Position description
The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of California, Riverside invite applications for multiple open-rank faculty positions in the area of Robotics with emphasis on all computational aspects, including perception, computer vision, planning, learning, and formal methods for robotics. Exceptional candidates in other related areas will also be considered.
The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering has 35 core faculty members including 12 Fellows of the IEEE, AAAS, and other professional societies, and 17 NSF CAREER and Young Investigator awardees. ECE department has 11 cooperating faculty members from across UCR who actively participate in the research activities of the department and a number of research and adjunct faculty. The ECE department trains over 200 graduate students and receives annually over $10 million in research funding. Research areas in the department include computer engineering, controls and robotics, intelligent systems, smart grids and energy, nanomaterials and devices, and signal processing and communications. Multiple ECE faculty collaborate with the campus research centers, including the Center for Robotics and Intelligent Systems (CRIS), the Center for Nanoscale Science & Engineering (CNSE), the Winston Chung Global Energy Center (WCGEC), the College of Engineering’s Center for Environmental Research and Technology (CE-CERT), and the Center for Advanced NeuroImaging (CAN).
The Computer Science and Engineering Department currently has over 40 faculty members, including multiple ACM/IEEE/AAAS Fellows and Young Investigator/NSF CAREER award holders, who pride themselves in combining top quality teaching with cutting edge research. The research projects in the department are funded by federal (NSF, NIH, DoD) or industrial sponsors, with the new awards to the department for 2022/23 exceeding 22 million dollars. There are several faculty members who conduct research in related areas including artificial intelligence, machine learning, mobile networking and sensing. The department offers several undergraduate degrees, as well as MS and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science, with 200 PhD students currently enrolled. The Marlan and Rosemary Bourns College of Engineering (BCOE) is a well-established, rapidly growing college at UCR. Ranked in the top 20 best public global universities for engineering by U.S. News & World Report, BCOE has 138 faculty members, more than 3,400 undergraduate students, 1,000 graduate students, and more than $44 million in total annual research expenditures. The college is home to five departments, 11 undergraduate programs, 10 graduate programs, and 11 research centers.
Successful candidates will have a proven record of, or exceptional promise for, developing a vibrant externally-funded research program and developing a portfolio of high-quality teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels. UC Faculty are expected to maintain an active research agenda and record of publications; teach a regular course load at both the undergraduate and graduate levels; and participate in service activities at the department, college, campus, and professional levels. Candidates will be expected to support existing and new cross-cutting efforts relevant to their expertise.
Appointments are expected to begin on July 1, 2023. Salary will be commensurate with education and experience. Candidates must have met the requirements for the Ph.D. by the time of appointment.
Advancement through the faculty ranks at the University of California is through a series of structured, merit-based evaluations, occurring every 2-3 years, each of which includes substantial peer input.
