Position overview

Position title: Postdoctoral Scholar
Salary range: $55,632-$66,600
Anticipated start: October 1, 2022

Position description

The Biotransport and Bioreaction Kinetics Group (B2K) in the Department of Bioengineering at the University of California, Riverside invites applications for a postdoctoral position in the interdisciplinary area of membrane-based medical device development.

The initial appointment would be for one year, with the possibility to renew up to two more years based on the research performance. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience postdoc starts with an annual salary of $55,632 up to $66,600 based on the University of California regulations. More details can be found at https://graduate.ucr.edu/postdoctoral-studies.

Requirements: The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. in Bioengineering, Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related field and have experience in fabricating ultrafiltration devices, preparing hydrogels and performing computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modeling analysis of membrane systems. Experience in animal surgery is desirable but not mandatory. Candidates should be familiar with writing protocols, managing day-to-day implementation of protocol procedures, ensuring quality data acquisition, analyzing multilevel repeated-measures data, writing manuscripts, and collaborating with students.

The B2K Group is embarking on an exciting multi-disciplinary collaborative large animal project with Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR) to investigate our patented medical device (osmotic transport device, OTD) (US Patent 10420918 B2) in reducing cerebral edema, controlling intracranial pressure (ICP) after a ballistic wound. Thus, the ideal candidate will be involved in: a) optimizing OTD design using appropriate tools such as computational fluid dynamics modeling; b) fabricating prototypes through 3D printing or other methods for deployment in specific animal groups; c) developing methods to quantify the efficacy of the OTD; d) periodically travel on-site to WRAIR to oversee OTD implementation; e) and provide statistical analysis of results.

Application Procedure: Applicants will need to submit a cover letter (describe how the position relates to his/her academic experiences and previous accomplishments), curriculum vitae, three letters of references, and a contribution to diversity statement, via AP Recruit at https://aprecruit.ucr.edu/JPF01615. Full consideration will be given to those who apply by September 16, 2022; however, the position is open until filled. The position will begin October 1, 2022.

Further information about the B2K Group can be found here: https://b2k.engr.ucr.edu/. The selected applications will be interviewed with Zoom to finalize the decision.
