Position description

The Department of Bioengineering (BIEN) at the University of California, Riverside invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Teaching (Lecturer with Potential Security of Employment LPSOE), beginning the 2021/22 academic year. The appointment requires evidence of a long-standing record of exceptional undergraduate teaching, professional achievement, and service to the academic community. An LPSOE is a member of the Academic Senate and will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses, and provide university and public services related to the undergraduate program including curriculum development, student advising, ABET accreditation, recruitment outreach, etc. Applications with strong experience teaching biomaterials, optical imaging, and tissue engineering are encouraged to apply.

The search places strong emphasis on candidates who have a demonstrated commitment to promoting diversity and inclusiveness in teaching, research, and service, as well as a commitment to broadening participation for women and other underrepresented groups in Bioengineering.

Preferred qualifications include:
• A minimum of 3 years of experience as an undergraduate course instructor in an ABET-accredited Bioengineering or Biomedical Engineering program.
• A demonstrated record of high-quality and innovative teaching in a wide variety of undergraduate BIEN courses in at least two of the areas of: biomaterials, optical imaging, senior design, and tissue engineering.
• A demonstrated record of teaching in capstone senior design courses, as well as successful engagement with sponsors to generate support for senior design projects.
• Experience in advising undergraduate students in course selection and career development is strongly preferred.
• At least 1.5 years of prior work experience in Bioengineering or Biomedical Engineering in an academic or industry setting.

A Ph.D. in Bioengineering, Biomedical Engineering, or Biology is required at the time of employment. Salary will be competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
