Position description

The Department of Biochemistry at the University of California, Riverside invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level or a tenured position at the rank of an Associate or Full Professor, effective July 1, 2020.

We are seeking a highly motivated scientist performing basic research in any area of epigenetics, including, but not limited to, studies of chromatin biology, regulatory RNA, or epitranscriptomics in development, disease, regeneration and/or ageing. The successful candidate will have a record of outstanding research productivity and creativity, and will be expected to develop and lead an innovative independent, extramurally funded research program. The position will build on existing strengths of the Department in structural, molecular, and cellular biology, and will benefit from the cutting-edge facilities for genomics, proteomics, metabolomics, microscopy, and high-throughput small molecule and genetic screening. A generous start-up package will be provided to complement outstanding laboratory and office space, with salary commensurate with experience.

For all levels, applicants must have a Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent degree in biochemistry, genetics, molecular biology, cell biology, or related fields, and will be expected to teach graduate and undergraduate courses, advise and mentor graduate and undergraduate students, and engage in service activities. Potential leadership positions for a senior candidate include chairing the department or directing the department’s graduate program. For full consideration, applicants should submit their complete applications by January 22, 2020. Review of applications will begin on January 23, 2020.

For all levels, applications should be submitted online at https://aprecruit.ucr.edu/apply/JPF01222, and should contain a cover letter, a curriculum vitae, a statement of proposed research, a statement of teaching philosophy, and a statement of past and/or planned future contributions to advancing diversity and inclusive excellence. Applicants for the Assistant level should also provide at least three letters of recommendation; applicants for the Associate/Full level should provide contact names and addresses of at least three references. Preference will be given to applicants whose research interests complement those of existing faculty in genomics, epigenetic regulation, or metabolic control in model organisms. These include faculty with expertise in structural, molecular, and cellular biology who study epigenetic coregulators and modifications of chromatin structure, transcription regulation, DNA repair, and their roles in cancer, metabolism, stem cell biology, and aging.
