Position description

The Zagha Lab (zaghalab.com) at the University of California Riverside is inviting applications for 1 or 2 full-time post-doc positions to join a newly developed, highly collaborative translational research project. The goal of the project is to develop a drug delivery platform for focal drug targeting. The home lab is in the Behavioral Neuroscience area of the Psychology Department, and you will also be collaborating with labs in Bioengineering and Biomedical Sciences.

This research project is interdisciplinary, involving materials engineering, pharmacology, small animal surgery, histology, and electrophysiology. (Details of the project will be discussed during the interview.) A successful applicant is not expected to have expertise in all areas, but evidence of previous interdisciplinary research across some of these fields is preferred. The postdoctoral fellow will be leading the collaboration between the labs of Dr. Edward Zagha (Psychology), Dr. Huinan Liu (Bioengineering), and Dr. Byron Ford (Biomedical Sciences). The postdoctoral fellow will take a lead role in assay development, data collection, data analyses, manuscript, and grant writing.

A PhD in Neuroscience, Bioengineering, Biomedical Sciences, or a related discipline is required at the time of the appointment. Candidates who are ABD at the time of application will be considered. Excellent organizational and communication skills are also required, as needed to lead an interdisciplinary team. Applicants must have demonstrated proficiency in experimental ‘wet lab’ research skills. Relevant research skills, and preferred qualifications, include animal surgery, pharmacology, histology, materials engineering, and electrophysiology. Training will be provided for skills not already acquired.

Post-doc salary will be $54,540-$65,292, according to the NIH salary scale and dependent on experience. The appoint starts in Oct 2021 and will be for one year with the opportunity for two 2-year reappointments contingent on performance and available funding.
