The University of California, Riverside's (UCR) Marlan and Rosemary Bourns College of Engineering (BCOE) currently has 129 faculty members, more than 2,500 undergraduates, 830 graduate students, more than $39 million in annual research expenditures, and is home to five departments, two college-wide Interdepartmental programs and 10 research centers.

BCOE invites applicants for tenure-track faculty positions who will complement the highly motivated and entrepreneurial spirit of the College faculty, and who will contribute meaningfully to the success of future teaching, research, and service accomplishments. Incumbents are expected to initiate and sustain strong sponsored research and graduate training programs. The Department of Mechanical Engineering (ME) is home of 26 faculty members, 89 graduate students, and 511 undergraduate students. Although barely 18 years old, the prominence of our department is rising quickly, as evidenced by the most recent National Research Council and U.S. News and World Report rankings, which place our program in the first and second quartile, respectively, of all ME graduate programs in the nation. Our faculty are leaders in their respective fields. Many have been honored with prestigious national and international awards and serve as Editors and/or Editorial Board Members of prominent journals. Our researchers are clustered around seven multi-disciplinary areas, and affiliated with multiple Centers and Programs across campus toward achieving cutting-edge research. Thanks to this rich academic environment, our graduates are well-prepared to pursue successful careers in academia, federal research facilities, and high-tech companies. The ME department strategic plan projects growth in such areas as controls, robotics and systems engineering.

Successful candidates will have a proven record of, or exceptional promise for, developing a vibrant externally-funded research program and developing a portfolio of high quality teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels. UC faculty will be expected to maintain an active research agenda and record of publications; teach a regular course load at both the undergraduate and graduate levels; and to participate in service activities at department, college campus, and professional levels. They should also demonstrate clear potential for complementing and/or synergistically leveraging existing research activities within the department, college and campus. Advancement through the faculty ranks at the University of California is through a series of structured, merit-based evaluations, occurring every 2-3 years, each of which includes substantial peer input.

Appointments are expected to begin July 1, 2019. Salary will be commensurate with education and experience.

Applicants must be all but dissertation or have met the requirements for the Ph.D. by the time of appointment, July 1, 2019; have college-level teaching experience with a minimum one-year teaching experience at undergraduate or graduate level.
