Position description

The Department of Physics and Astronomy invites applications for a career level Academic Coordinator position for Lower Division Physics Laboratory Instruction, beginning Spring or Summer, 2020. The Academic Coordinator will have responsibility for managing instructional, administrative, and budgetary activities in support of the lower division laboratory course program, and managing safety activities for the department. These duties include curriculum development, TA training and oversight, supervision of technical staff, enrollment management and course scheduling, overseeing the day-to-day operation of the laboratories, demonstration development for lower division classes, and safety assessment for lower division instructional and research labs.

A Ph.D. in Physics, and demonstrated excellence in teaching and laboratory management is required. Experience with laboratory curriculum development, innovation in teaching, educational grant writing, and experience in experimental research is desirable. A willingness to learn and develop new methods, and techniques, as well as maintain well-developed ones, is considered a plus for this position. The candidate will be expected to interact closely with faculty.
